Rod Troutbeck is the principal of Troutbeck & Associates. Until recently, he was a Professor and Head of Civil Engineering at QUT and specialised in road safety barriers, motor sport safety, traffic management on freeways and arterial roads, the performance of roundabouts, Intelligent Transport Systems, and more general aspects of road safety.

Dr Troutbeck is an Emeritus Professor at QUT. He  is the Chairman of the Standards Australia Committee CE/33 - Road Safety Barriers; Standard Australia Working Group on Risk Management in Motor Sport and Co-Chairman of the Transportation Research Board Sub-committee on International Research Activities on Roadside Safety Features. Dr Troutbeck is a member of the research panel to oversee the US National Co-operative Highway Research Program project 22-14 “Improvement of the procedures for the safety-performance evaluation of roadside features”, the Research Advisory Group of the Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety and the Transportation Research Board committee on Roadside Safety Features. A2A04.  From 1993 to 2006 he was a member of the U.S Transportation Research Board Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service.
